The Show's Relation To The Amida Sutra

Why did Genya chant the Amida Sutra in Demon Slayer

Genya Shinazugawa is heard chanting the Amida Sutra when Aizetsu stabbed him. Aizetsu seemed confused after hearing him. The reason why Genya chanted the Amida Sutra is that he cannot use a Breathing Technique.

We know that a breathing technique is used not only for offense but also for healing. The other Demon Slayers use their respective Breathing Techniques to heal their injuries or minimize blood loss. Not being able to use a breathing technique, Genya is not able to heal his injuries using this technique.

Genya is a Tsuguko (a Demon Slayer who is trained by a Hashira) of Gyomei Himejima, the current Stone Hashira. Gyomei has taught Genya the sayings of the Amida Sutra in order to focus his energies and use these sayings in the same way that the other Demon Slayers use Breathing Techniques. This is the reason why Genya uses the Amida Sutra instead of Total Concentration Breathing.
