Does Genya Shinazugawa Die In Demon Slayer?

The latest episode of Demon Slayer just dropped, and to everyone's expectations, Hantengu and Gyokko have finally shown up in the new season. But what was truly exciting was seeing Hantengu split into his multiple personalities.

We all know for sure that Hantengu will prove to be a hassle, after all, he is even higher in rank than Gyutaro. But wasn't it quite early to show our beloved characters struggling for life? One of Hantengu's personalities, Aizetsu (Hantengu's sorrowful personality), stabs Genya Shinazugawa, and it has really got the fans wondering if Genya is dead. Let's find out.

Gyokko And Hantengu Finally Reach Swordsmith Village

Suddenly, the door opens, and Hantengu makes an entrance. Both Tanjiro and Tokito, who were talking, stand in shock. They both think that they couldn't sense his presence until they saw him. However, Tokito is quick to react and tries to slash off Hantengu's head. However, Hantengu dodges the attack and sticks to the roof.

Nezuko transforms into her Demon form and kicks Hantengu away with all her might. Tokito goes on to slash his head off, but it's not over yet. The severed head grows into a body, and the body grows another head, revealing two different Demons.

Hantengu has split into 2 Demons, each as powerful as an Upper Rank. Tokito tries to attack Kuraku (Hantengu's Pleasure Personality) but fails as Kuraku swings his maple-leaf weapon, and a gust of wind flies Tokito away. Tanjiro still stands his ground, thanks to Nezuko.

Genya Gets Stabbed By Aizetsu

As Tokito flies away, Sekido (Hantengu's angry personality) tries to electrocute Tanjiro and Nezuko, but he is stopped by Genya. To everybody's surprise, Genya uses a sawed-off shotgun. Tanjiro notices the smell of Nichirin material from the gun. The shots, however, help Sekido and Kuraku to split into two further personalities, namely Aizetsu (the sorrowful personality) and Urogi (the joyful personality).

As Tanjiro explains to Genya that beheading the Demons will not work, the former is flown away by Urogi. Nezuko tries to save her brother, but Tanjiro asks Nezuko to assist Genya. As he is asking Nezuko to do so, he spots Genya being stabbed by Aizetsu using his Khakkhara.

On the other hand, Tokito is on the move to get back to Tanjiro and his comrades. He sees Kotetsu being attacked by Gyokko and runs to his rescue. The Swordsmith Village Arc will surely give us some action-packed sequences!

Is Genya Shinazugawa Dead In Demon Slayer?

From the looks of it, anime viewers assume that Genya has been stabbed, and now he is probably dead. However, it is not yet the case. The manga chapters reveal otherwise as Genya goes on to fight alongside the Hashiras and his fellow comrades.

The secret to his survival lies in the teachings of his master, Gyomei Himejima (The Stone Hashira). Anime fans would be surprised to find out that Genya cannot use a Breathing Technique, which is not only used for offense but also to heal oneself.

So, to compensate for this inability, he uses a technique called Amida Sutra, in which he repeatedly chants a set of prayers of the 'Amidayurdhyana Sutra.' This technique helps him heal his wounds and carry on, whereas the other Demon Slayers use Breathing Techniques to do the same.

It is a great relief that Genya Shinazugawa is not dead yet and will lend a helping hand to the Demon Slayer Corps in defeating the Upper Ranks, Gyokko, and Hantengu. Looks like the viewers will get to experience a good amount of fight sequences in the upcoming episodes.
