A substance that offers immortality is not just something that one can have on a Sunday evening. It is no wonder that the shogunate was offering the gift of life to the person who finds it. But the actual question here is, does this elixir actually exist, or is it a myth?
Does The Elixir Of Life Really Exist?

As the manga ended after narrating Gabimaru's story, we see that the shogunate is successfully served with the Elixir of Life, which was earlier mistook as a kind of fruit called 'Tokijiku no Kagunomi.' However, the elixir was originally called Tan, and Lord Tensen guarded it with their lives.
The Elixir was the result of numerous human experiments and the use of principles of Taoism. And the Tensen, that can be otherwise translated as "Heavenly Immortals," are the deities that have achieved immortality and guard the secrets of the Elixir of Life.
Hence, we can conclude that the Elixir of Life is indeed real, and the shogunate was successful in getting their hands on this wonderous substance that can offer external youth and immortality to anyone who manages to consume it.
