One Punch Man Season 3 recently dropped, and while the return of Saitama was supposed to bring excitement, things have taken a disappointing turn behind the scenes. The season’s director, Shinpei Nagai, has officially deleted his X (Twitter) account after receiving a wave of hate and harassment from fans.
In a now-deleted post, Nagai explained that some followers pretended to support him but were actually twisting his words and spreading negativity online. He said that people were taking his comments out of context, trying to provoke him, and even using his statements to make profit, something he found deeply disrespectful. Additionally, he mentioned that this toxic environment had taken a toll on his mental health, making it impossible for him to continue interacting with fans.
The One Punch Man Season 3 Director’s Statement Explains It All

In his farewell message, Shinpei Nagai apologized to the genuine fans and said he made this decision after realizing that continuing in such an environment was “untenable.” He added that he couldn’t forgive those who disrespected the One Punch Man staff or used the team’s hard work for “profit through hate.”
Interestingly, Nagai also revealed that he plans to delete another related account, Shimpai Nagai, and has no plans to return to social media in the future. He expressed gratitude toward those who were kind and supportive, ending his post by saying, “It was truly enjoyable.”
Undoubtedly, this news shocked the One Punch Man community. It’s not the first time anime creators have faced harsh criticism online, but this case shows how fast discussions can turn ugly. In fact, even though criticism is normal for any creative work, the line between feedback and harassment often gets crossed in fan spaces.
How Fans Reacted Online?

The news spread quickly across social media, and the reactions were mixed. Some fans felt disappointed with how things turned out, saying that One Punch Man fans had waited for years for this season and deserved better. Others, however, pointed out that criticism should never cross into hate, especially toward someone simply trying to do their job.
Additionally, many fans expressed concern about the growing negativity in the anime community, saying that social media can easily become toxic when emotions run high. Some even mentioned how ironic it was — that a show about kindness, effort, and self-improvement had fans who failed to learn from its message.
Overall, while a few defended harsh criticism as part of the creative world, most agreed that no amount of disappointment justifies personal attacks.
