Anime is full of amazing characters. Some make us laugh, some make us cry, and some - well, they just make us mad. Like seriously, how can one character be so annoying or evil that fans from all over the world agree: "We can’t stand this person." But that's what we call creativity: writing a character so well that fans gather to curse them.
This list is for those characters. The ones who made you pause the episode just to scream. The ones who made Reddit threads explode with rage. While some of them did terrible things, others just got on people’s nerves. But all of them? Totally unforgettable. Let’s rank the 10 most hated anime characters of all time.

12/12 Shinji Ikari - Neon Genesis Evangelion

Shinji Ikari is the main character of Neon Genesis Evangelion, but not everyone’s a fan. He’s awkward, unsure of himself, and constantly caught in a mess of emotions. And let’s be honest, sometimes you just want to shake him and say, “Come on, man!” His constant hesitation and whining really test the patience of a lot of viewers.
But is the hate fair? Maybe not entirely. Shinji’s dealing with insane pressure for a teenager, fighting giant monsters, saving the world, and dealing with serious trauma. Some people call him realistic, others just call him annoying. Depends on how much crying you can handle in one episode.

11/12 Sakura Haruno - Naruto

Despite her initial aspirations to become a formidable ninja, Sakura's combat skills often fall short compared to her peers. However, what frustrates viewers the most is her tendency to prioritize her personal interests and desires above the greater good.
This, coupled with her persistent belief in her own superiority, has led many to label her as useless and selfish. Sakura's character arc and development over time have sparked heated discussions among fans, making her a divisive figure within the Naruto fandom.

9/12 Spandam - One Piece

Spandam isn’t just a villain, he’s the kind of character that makes your blood boil every time he’s on screen. As the head of CP9 during the Enies Lobby arc, his role is already shady. But it’s the way he treats Nico Robin that really made fans furious. He constantly mocks her, beats her, and manipulates her, all while pretending he’s some big hero.

8/12 Tetta Kisaki - Tokyo Revengers

Tetta Kisaki, with his cunning and carefully calculated schemes, has emerged as a perfect embodiment of a villain within the world of Tokyo Revengers. His ability to craft meticulous plans and manipulate people and events to suit his own agenda has made him one of the most despised characters.

7/12 Braun - Attack on Titan

Now this one’s tricky. Gabi is a kid, and she’s been brainwashed her whole life. But that doesn’t stop fans from hating her. Why? Because she shot one of the most loved characters in the show. She appears out of nowhere, no warning, just boom - and poor Sasha is lying in a pool of blood.
Sure, we get why she did it. But emotions don’t work like logic. When someone kills your favorite character, it hurts. Some fans slowly warmed up to her later, but let’s be real, Gabi’s name will always bring back a wave of anime rage.

6/12 Nina Einstein - Code Geass

This pink-haired Britannian officer might be the most useless character in Code Geass. She constantly messes up missions, cries about everything, and somehow survives situations that kill better characters. Her only purpose seems to be making the audience groan.
Do fans hate her too much? Maybe. But when you're taking screen time from legends like Lelouch and Suzaku, you better bring something to the table. Nina brought a weird obsession with tables. (Code Geass fans know what we are talking about)

5/12 Danzo Shimura - Naruto

Danzo is like that shady guy in the back who acts like he’s doing good, but is actually messing up everything. He kept secrets, made dirty deals, and played with people’s lives. He’s a big reason why so many terrible things happened in Konoha.

He even took Shisui’s eye and tried to steal power for himself. The worst part? He acted like it was all for the village. Really, Danzo? Was wiping out an entire clan “for the village” too? He’s the true villain in a lot of ways, even if he didn’t wear a villain outfit.

4/12 Rachel - Tower of God

Rachel has one job in the beginning: be a good friend, that’s it. Just don’t be a snake. But what does she do? She betrays Bam, pushes him off, and lies to everyone. And for what? Jealousy - pure, boring jealousy. Her fake innocence makes her even more infuriating.
What hurts more is how much Bam cared about her. He literally climbed a death trap of a tower just to find her. And she didn’t even hesitate to backstab him. Fans didn’t just hate Rachel, they felt betrayed. She’s proof that the quiet ones are sometimes the most dangerous. Definitely a deserving one in the list of most hated anime characters.

3/12 Malty S Melromarc - The Rising of the Shield Hero

Malty, also known as Princess Myne, is a walking red flag. Right from the start, she lies about the Shield Hero, Naofumi, accusing him of something horrible he didn’t do. And guess what? She keeps lying - again and again, like it’s her hobby.
She ruins people’s lives and smiles while doing it. Viewers were begging for karma to catch up with her. And thankfully, when it finally does, it’s one of the most satisfying scenes ever. Do we feel bad for her? Not even a little bit. Malty is a queen with a big crown when it comes to the most hated characters in anime.

2/12 Griffith - Berserk

Where do we even start? At first, this golden-haired guy seemed like the cool, ambitious leader with big dreams. But then that betrayal happened. He sacrificed all his friends - his loyal, amazing friends, for power. And what he did to Casca? Not just unforgivable, it was blasphemous.
Fans still get mad just thinking about his heinous crimes. Griffith didn’t just break trust, he shattered it into a million pieces and danced on it. Some people argue he had a "goal" and it was all part of his plan. Nopes, there’s no excuse for that kind of betrayal.

1/12 Shou Tucker - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Let’s be honest; no one has forgotten what this man did. Shou Tucker is that one anime character who united the entire fanbase in pure hatred. He fused his own daughter, Nina, with their dog, just to keep his alchemy license. Yes, a father sacrificing his daughter for his own benefit - that's what he did.
What makes it worse is how calm and cold he was about it. He didn’t cry, didn’t seem guilty - nothing. To top it off, Nina was the sweetest little girl ever. Honestly, if anime had a "worst dad in history" award, Tucker would win every year.
