Top 10 Nen Abilities In Hunter x Hunter, Ranked

Top 10 Nen abilities in Hunter x Hunter

Nen allows users to control their life energy (aura) and use it in crazy and creative ways. From mind-blowing transformations to powers that mess with your emotions, Nen is one of the most flexible and exciting systems in all of anime.

The best part? Everyone’s ability feels personal. Unlike other anime where characters just get stronger, Hunter x Hunter makes each power feel like an extension of the character’s personality or past. Let’s take a look at the top 10 Nen abilities in the series, ranked by how iconic, powerful, and cool they are.

10/10 Doctor Blythe — Neferpitou

Neferpitou using Doctor Blythe

Neferpitou’s Doctor Blythe isn’t flashy in a destructive way, but it’s terrifying in its own right. This ability lets Pitou summon a creepy, giant nurse to perform surgeries and heal massive injuries. It shows how Nen can be used not just for battle, but for something as amazing as biological repair.

What makes Doctor Blythe so unique is how fast and accurate it is. Pitou even uses it to reanimate corpses or keep dying bodies alive longer, which is horrifying when you think about it. This ability is pure nightmare fuel, and it fits perfectly with Pitou’s twisted nature.

9/10 Jajanken — Gon Freecss

Gon loads up Jajanken against Morel

Gon’s Jajanken is simple, but deadly. Based on rock-paper-scissors, it gives him three different attacks: rock (punch), scissors (blade), and paper (projectile). He charges his aura into his fists, and each move focuses on a different type of damage.

Jajanken is super straightforward, just like Gon himself. While it doesn’t have wild tricks or complex conditions, the raw power it delivers — especially during his adult transformation — is insane. Gon’s ability is all about heart, strength, and determination.

8/10 God Speed — Killua Zoldyck

Killua uses his electric Nen, God Speed

“God Speed” is probably one of the coolest Nen abilities visually. Killua uses his aura as electricity to boost his speed and reflexes to almost untouchable levels. It has two main modes: one lets him react automatically, and the other gives him full-speed control over his body.

This ability makes Killua nearly impossible to hit, and he uses it to dominate enemies who are way stronger than him. God Speed is also a symbol of him breaking free from his assassin past, making it feel like a personal development for Killua.

7/10 Dragon Head — Zeno Zoldyck

Zeno Zoldyck Dragon Head Nen

Dragon Head is a beautiful mix of Zeno's power and style. He shapes his aura into a massive dragon that can be used for travel, defense, or destruction. He even used it in an aerial attack with Chrollo that looked like something out of a myth.

Zeno is a seasoned assassin, and his Nen ability reflects both grace and danger. Dragon Head is a rare ability that feels both ancient and deadly, fitting perfectly with Zeno’s calm but powerful presence.

6/10 Emperor Time & Chain Jail — Kurapika

Kurapika uses Chain Jail on Uvogin

Kurapika’s Nen ability is one of the most complicated but also one of the strongest in the series. Chain Jail locks down anyone from the Phantom Troupe, and Emperor Time lets him use all types of Nen 100% when his eyes turn red.

The catch? It shortens his lifespan, as it is based on a Nen contract. That condition shows just how much Kurapika is willing to sacrifice for revenge. His chains are symbols of the weight he carries of his past, making his Nen abilities feel more emotional and powerful in Hunter x Hunter.

5/10 Bungee Gum — Hisoka Morrow

Hisoka shows his Bungee Gum to Gotoh

Bungee Gum is iconic. It has the properties of both rubber and gum, and Hisoka uses it in the most creative ways possible — pulling, trapping, faking, dodging. This ability might not seem that harmful at first, but in Hisoka’s hands, it's deadly.

What makes it so fun is how unpredictable and unconventional it is. Hisoka uses it like a magician with tricks up his sleeve. He can literally fake his death with it. Bungee Gum is flashy, and it’s insanely versatile — and kind of hilarious too.

4/10 Skill Hunter — Chrollo Lucilfer

Skill Hunter Chrollo Lucilfer Nen

Chrollo’s Skill Hunter is basically a power collector. If he meets certain conditions, he can steal someone’s Nen ability and store it in a book. As long as the book is open to the page, he can use the power like it’s his own.

This makes Chrollo one of the most dangerous Nen users ever and Phantom Troupe's leader in Hunter x Hunter. He’s like a walking arsenal, and he plans every battle like a chess game. Skill Hunter makes him unpredictable and terrifying because you never know what he’ll use next.

3/10 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva — Isaac Netero

100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva Isaac Netero

Netero’s ability is both elegant and explosive. The 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva is a massive, golden statue with countless arms that can strike faster than the eye can see. It’s one of the most beautiful Nen techniques we've ever witnessed in HxH

What makes it stand out is how it reflects Netero’s years of training and discipline. Even in his final fight with Meruem, the Bodhisattva held its own. It’s a lifetime of dedication in physical form that even impressed Meruem.

2/10 Aura Synthesis — Meruem

Meruem using Nen against Issac Netero

Meruem’s Nen ability allows him to absorb the Nen of others and make it his own. After being injured by Netero’s bomb, he eats Pouf and Youpi, gaining their powers. Thus, his aura grows to impossible levels.

This ability shows how scary and broken Meruem is. He evolves in real time, becoming something beyond human or Chimera Ant. Aura Synthesis makes him feel like a god among men — and he nearly is. No wonder Netero had a hard time fighting him.

1/10 Wish Granting — Nanika

Killua carrying Nanika in his arms

Nanika, the mysterious being inside Killua’s sister Alluka, has the most powerful and terrifying ability of all. She can grant any wish — no matter how big — but only after getting some strange requests fulfilled first. The catch is that if someone fails to complete a request, they might die.

This ability is reality-breaking. It doesn’t follow normal Nen rules, and even the Zoldycks don’t fully understand it. Nanika’s powers are so strong that they feel like a glitch in the system. It’s mysterious and absolutely terrifying, totally unexpected from someone as cute as Alluka.
